A 28-year-old’s killing woke up Bihar’s conscience

Bharat Bhushan Tiwari, 28, a man who said he was trying to change the system, died when police allegedly shot him down a dirt track in Bihar’s Bhojpur district, on June 17. Over a day, he had live-streamed the police surrounding his house, and recorded his anger at politicians’ “false promises”, while brandishing a gun. When news of his death went viral, outraged people protested and thousands attended a Maha Panchayat, reports Amit Bhelari. It prompted the State government to order a judicial enquiry, suspend police personnel, and register a murder case against at least two
